Synopsis

When the elderly Larry (Barry Primus) and his wife, Joan, (Betty Buckley) attend a family holiday gathering, he chokes on a pretzel and dies. He awakes from death in a crowded purgatory-like train station and massive hotel, as a much younger version of himself (now played by Miles Teller). Anna (Da'Vine Joy Randolph) his "Afterlife Coordinator" explains that he is now appearing as he did at the best stage of his life, and that he is here to select the version of Eternity that he will ascend to. There is a large convention-like auditorium with hundreds of booths showcasing the many alternatives to choose from, with such themes as Man-Free World, Smokers World, Nudist World, Paris Land, and Queer World.

Larry is aware that his wife is suffering from terminal cancer, and believes that she might, herself, succumb to her disease and arrive here. Indeed, to his joy, she does eventually appear, and they are reunited in this portal to Eternity. She (now played by Elizabeth Olsen) is introduced to her personal Afterlife Coordinator, Ryan (John Early).

As Larry and Joan discuss their situations, she sees a familiar person walking towards them with an amazed look on his face. It is Luke (Callum Turner), who was her first husband. He had died in the war in Korea sixty-five years ago. He explains that he had spent all those years waiting for her.

Both Luke and Larry desperately make their case to Joan as to why they should be the one to spend eternity with her. She loves them both and is torn with indecision.

Spoiler information will be added after the movie has been in release for at least three months.
